Programme Note
What Lies (is) Concealed focuses around the idea of perception (perhaps influenced by recent Masters studies of Lutosławski’s music). An apparently strong musical idea is subjected to repeated development or examination, each time it returns (in ‘ritornello’ fashion), the more we come to know it, and the further we probe beneath the surface of the ‘musical object’, the weaker and less substantial it appears to be.
