Calling all those student composers with an interest in architecture and how it relates to new music!

Goethe once said “architecture is like frozen music”, what do you think?  The launch event for the LCO New: Explore ‘Inspired by Architecture’ call for scores project (which I manage for London Chamber Orchestra) will take place at London City Hall on 23 November 2009, 10am-5pm (approx.). The Study Day will present the attending student composers from across the UK and Ireland with an informative day of talks and architectural sightseeing, exploring the long-recognised relationship between architecture and music composition.

Hosted in the London’s Living Room, at the top of Norman Foster’s London City Hall, the Study Day will include talks from prominent architects and composers in the morning followed by an afternoon where students will be given guided tours of two fascinating architectural sites in Hackney by their architects; the Framehouse by Marcus Lee and the Hothouse by Cany Ash.

Following the Study Day, the composers who attended will be invited to write a short work for LCO, six of which will be selected to be performed and recorded by LCO at a public concert in The Octagon (Queen Mary University, Mile End campus) during the GLA EAST Festival.

Register your place for the Study Day by contacting me at donal@lco.co.uk or calling LCO on +44 (0)20 7105 6205.
