On May 9, I travelled to York as part of the King’s College London Stranded Ensemble to participate in a University Contemporary Music Collaboration Day. This event was organised jointly by phD students at York and KCL as a way for postgraduate composers to have their work performed by people enthusiastic about the development of contemporary music. The idea was that performers from one University would perform works by composers from another. Durham and Manchester Universities also took part in the event although the delegation from Manchester chose to perform works by their own composers (albeit superbly it must be said!) only. I have to say that the day was an excellent idea and a huge success.

I played celesta in a performance of the septet Then Everything Is As It Was Before by Martin Scheuregger from York and piano for Durham student Chris Garrard’s piece Into. I also enjoyed the couple of days in the charming town of York and had to opportunity to sample a few of their locally brewed ales.
